Event: MacKerricher State Park Whale Festival
Date: March 17th, 18th, 19th
Location: MacKerricher State Park
3 miles north of Fort Bragg California on Highway One
Activities:
¯ Friday: Whale-Tale Storytelling of personal close-encounters with whales and other marine mammals. MacKerricher Visitor Center. 6:30 pm Refreshments. 7:00 pm, Program.
¯ Saturday:
o 10:00 AM to 12 PM: Whale Walk, Meet at MacKerricher Visitor Center, near Ranger Kiosk and Whale Skeleton.
o 10: 00 AM until finished: Whale Scavenger Hunt, which includes 4 stations:
§ How Big is a Whale’s Eye?
§ Pin the Tail on the Whale
§ Build Your Own Gray Whale
§ Ahoy, Matey! Call me Ishmael - whaling lore and facts
Those who finish the hunt receive a memento!
o 12:00 PM: Whale-Gate Picnic at Cleone Lake. Bring a dish to share, folding chairs and a musical instrument.
¯ Sunday:
o 10:00 AM to 12 PM: Whale Walk, same location as Saturday
o 11:00 AM: Kite Flying Contest with your own store-bought kite or your homemade whale-theme kite. Meet at Cleone Lake. We’ll have paper and string if you want to make your own at the park. Prizes awarded.
o 1:00 PM: Plant a Tree! Meet at Cleone Lake.
